I am trying to 'green' all aspects of my life, I have been collecting single use biros and giving them to my cousins, as they do more writing than I do. I have decided to switch to a refillable fountain pen. I already have a refillable ink cartridge, so I have bought a bottle of ink, an exemption as its a consumable, I think
I have been trying to tell myself that buying another refillable ink cartridge would not be an exemption, as I have one, but for the other type of pen. So I have ink and can't wait to re-discover 'propper' writing!
I am working on my no clutter challenge, but I have still got half of my belongings in my Dad's garage, so I have started to sort through it, one box at a time. BF is not happy as I've brought more clutter into our already tiny flat, but my plan is to make sure more will be leaving than coming in.
I am being defeated in my attempts to green our washing-up by BF, he insists on buying a 'well known brand' that is (not) kind to my hands!
The buy no lunch challenge is still going ok, in that most days I take something home-made to work; today was leak and potato soup and I microwaved it, yum. Trouble is I've eaten too much and now I just want to go to sleep!
It has been an expensive few days; I am tempted to start another sentence with 'I have bought', so I will. I have bought a mooncup. It is a reusable alternative to tampons, for all the details see www.mooncup.co.uk I managed to read all 68 pages of the It's not easy being green / New House Farm forum on the subject and the ladies on there convinced me it was a good idea. No more disposable sanitry products for me. So next 'month' might be interesting! Women's sanitry products are terrible for the environment and it is debatable if they are much good for women.
My Dad, who is not particularly green, used to work in the 'water industry'. One day he went to inspect a sewage farm and came back with the horrible story of what actually happens to stuff we flush :-) Well that had me 'bagging and binning' my monthly supplies. Apparently they have to "seive" the sewage, but the "holes" are too big so tampons end up in the sea!! YUK!!! So over a number of years, I have started "bagging and binning, not flushing", then I have stopped using the tampons with the cardboard tubes, then I went to organic cotton ones and now I am trying to give up disposables completly. More blogs to follow on mooncups, if its not too much info! ;-)

I have wondered about these for a while...can you let me know how it goes?
