  • Buy nothing new for 12 months - update

How is the Compact going? It's going pretty well. My wear it within a year challenge is going ok, I've worn most things, except the really summery stuff. One top I got from the charity shop will have to go, it strangles my arms - I can see why it got donated! There's ribbon on the sleeves that wont stretch when you bend your elbow. I've cleared all my stuff out the loft, 3 boxes, and am busy listing it on ebay. I must be doing good with the decluttering because it feels like I have less stuff. I need to get BF doing same; but he won't get rid of *anything*. 89 days to go until my first Compact year!

  • A green-ish Easter

It was a green-ish easter for me, as much as an aetheist like me celebrates easter. With everyone eating chocolate like it was going out of fashion, I couldn't be left out could I? I gave my cousins 3 bars of Divine milk chocolate each, as I had a tip off from the youngest one that that was her favourite :-)
I didn't give any actual easter eggs, as I much prefer the quantity of chocolate in a bar and it saves all the *excess* packaging!!!

I had 2 easter eggs, one was even vegan! The other one won't go to waste (BF). BF bought me 2 bars Divine dark chocolate; as Green and Blacks have sold their soul to the devil! (He had a tip off too, but I asked for not too much choc as I am in training for the big bike ride!)

On the subject of the big bike ride, I managed 3 out of 4 days cycling, so 15 miles. On Easter Saturday BF and I did 27 miles, and I didn't feel like death warmed up afterwards! He said I was keeping up all the way, which from him is a compliment! Add that to the previous Sunday and that is 51 miles in the weeek.

On Sunday we just vegetated and ate chocolate(!)

On Monday I did about 6 miles of gentle walking with my Dad.

I decided to take an extra day holiday and have Tuesday off too, so we went for a walk we haven't done in ages. It was about 5 miles but the high point of the walk is 500 metres, so its a bit of a climb. My legs ache today!

The Compact is still going well, T-101 days until my first year!

  • T-minus 109 days and counting... 'Till my first year of Compacting

It's 109 days until my first year of Compacting and things are going well. My slow ebay purchase turned up yesterday and it is perfect. A 55 litre rucksack, it looks like it has only been used once, so I am all set for my holidays :-) My BF bought a fleece jumper from ebay, but it doesn't fit, so he gave it to me, and it is nice and warm! I am getting some of the Compact message across to him; saving him money seems to do the trick ;-) I also got a second-hand book from ebay that I have been wanting for ages.

I am trying to cycle to the station every day this week, as its a short week, that will be about 20 miles in all.

I am also thinking about doing a sponsored bike ride, I can't decide whether or not to do 26 miles or 52. I think 26 will be fairly easy and 52 would be a challenge. I have 6 weeks to train for it.

  • The trouble with ebay...

The trouble with ebay and swap sites; what's going on? Am I having bad look with swaps and ebay at the moment or is there something going on I should know about? I arranged a book swap a few weeks ago and the swapper never sent my book, I sent my book, but never received one in return. they claim to have left the country! Well you would have thought they'd have known they were leaving the country and sent the book before they went or not agreed the swap! Grrr.
Also ebay, I have just bought a new-to-me rucksack; well I say bought, I've payed for it and after 2 weeks it still hasn't arrived and the seller is ignoring my emails, what is wrong with the world! Grrrrrr!!!!

  • Compact day 252

Progress to date, day 252 and counting! I haven't bought anything new for a while and haven't bought much except food for a while. I'm trying to cut my supermarket use and this is going well; I don't really have any excuses because I am within easy reach of The 8th Day.

I was really excited last weekend because I found that Waitrose and Aldi do vegan sour laces, these are sweets in case you don't have a clue what I'm talking about and they usually have gelatin in them, so finding vegan ones was very exciting! (my BF thought I was mad!) Also on the sweets front, Haribo are doing vegan / kosher / halal jelly sweets - fizzy cola breeze and mega sours, but I've yet to find any where that stocks them except:

Cola Breeze - Fizzy cola Bottles with a sugar coating. 85p a bag http://www.veganstore.co.uk/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=1&Product_Code=596&Category_Code=520

Mega Sours - fruit shaped sour gums with a sour sugar coating. 85p a bag http://www.veganstore.co.uk/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=1&Product_Code=597&Category_Code=520

Sour Tongues - oblong shaped sour gums with a sour sugar hit. 85p a bag http://www.veganstore.co.uk/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=1&Product_Code=598&Category_Code=520

I don't usually advertise, but this is very exciting if you are a label reader like me!
